The LDO Nitehawk36 (NH36) USB Toolhead board has received (finally) a revised version, the v1.4, which addresses the issues present in earlier versions while maintaining its core features, including the integrated USB hub

Major Differences in v1.4

  1. New Toolhead Board:
    • A redesigned toolhead board with improved functionality while keeps almost the same layout and size format.
  2. New USB Breakout Board:
    • The USB breakout board has been updated, possibly for better connectivity or compatibility.
  3. Metal Shield on the Toolhead:
    • A metal shield has been added to the back of the toolhead. This encapsulated shield is designed to:
      • Protect the core components.
      • Improve durability.
      • Potentially enhance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding.
  4. More Mounting Points:
    • The revised design includes additional mounting points on the bottom of the board for better stability and compatibility with various setups.

Features

  • Convenient wiring, no more complicated and error prone breakout cables - nitehawk only requires 24V power and a USB connector to the RPI host.
  • USB Klipper connection, no additional software or hardware setup compared to CAN.
  • Secondary USB port, an onboard USB port allows you to connect a second USB device to your toolhead without running an additional umbilical cable.
  • Custom toolhead cable, a single combined USB data and power cable rated for drag chain use, but can also be used in umbilical configuration.
  • Convenient Input Shaping, run input shaper calibration at anytime with an onboard accelerometer.
  • Tacho enabled HEF, the hotend fan port is three pin tachometer compatible, allowing for additional diagnostics and safety.

Another quality LDO product

Another quality LDO product. Tested it against the EBB36 since it's the direct competitor and ease of use was astounding. Hooking it up via USB makes it so easy compared to setting up CANbus. However, if you like CANbus and have a ton of peripherals, CAN will be the way to go.

The original version had it's issues but LDO was quick to acknowledge and fix it with a revision.

Can't go wrong!

So far so good

So far so good, havent got it in full production yet but was super simple to setup.

Long time EBB36 user moved to NH36. I bought this kit mostly due to fomo and my impulse to keep upgrading 😅

Very clean install and i do like that i no longer need to run CAN.

**Note: My unit was from the batch that had issues with heatsink fitment resulting in possible short circuiting on the toolhead board. Luckily i was made aware of this prior to having my rebuild completed. I removed the stock heatsink and cut a 7x7mm section from a 40x40x11mm stepper heatsink which fits perfectly avoiding any possible contact with other components.

A couple of questions: 1. what's the maximum and recommended heater cartridge wattage we can run off this board? and 2. is there a preferred or recommended thermistor type to use?

DREMC STORE 3D Printing Supplies

Hi Kristan,

1. The maximum would be <100w 24v for ceramic heater (So it should be suitable for Rapido, Tester such as SteveB from Voron Team has running Rapido without tripping the fuse), for the more traditional heater, I would say no more than 24v70w is max I would go with traditional heater cartridge. As in most case ceramic heater will only spike to max wattage for initial couples seconds before dropping to around 50-70% of the heating power.

2. It should work with most of common thermistor type such as PT1000, 104NT/104GT, 100K.
